Bar too small and uncomfortable, not enough chairs for disabled people ( There are more disabled car parking spaces then chairs in the bar/ cafe. The Council will argue that it is because it is a temporary rink in its 4th year out of a life of 5 and all of these problems will be cured by a permanent rink. Let us make sure that they do cure these problems, have some input

There's not much right with the existing temporary ice rink IMO.
The only thing that it has got going for it, is that it has an ice pad in South Wales and allows me to watch the Cardiff Devils play..

Cardiff needs two ice pads. There are many hockey teams and hundreds of figure skaters who regularly use the ice rink. We all want and need more ice time at more appropriate times (5.30am Saturday mornings is not appropriate for young figure skaters). 2 ice pads would be a huge help and as a capital city, we deserve this. There are only 2 ice rinks in the whole of Wales and we have a massive catchment area. We need much better facilities; off-ice area to warm-up and do off-ice classes, a decent cafe, separate bar, changing rooms, harness to aid figure skaters jumping techniques. Something has to be done or we will lose more skaters to Bristol, or other rinks.

During early morning patch sessions the majority of parents use starbucks/mcdonalds to purchase hot drinks/breakfast and bring it back to the rink. What is baffling is how the management haven't noticed or have chosen to ignore this opportunity, again PI show no interest in the provision of services for the rink users.

I agree with all comments here. Two pads would encourage more skaters, more diverse ice groups and generate more money.
Management haven't noticed about coffee and food coming into the rink because they are not in attendance early in the morning (6 am etc) Following on from this, what is the fire procedure for early morning skaters/late night skaters. There seems to be one for the public sessions only. If PI can ignore this for the last 4 years, should they have been successful in their recent tender knowing that the council would ultimately be responsible should any injuries occur during unplanned fire evacuation?

There is a lack of patch time in Cardiff. Primary school children are getting up at 5 am/6 am to have lessons and practice there figure skating because there are only three evenings offered for patch. These evening sessions are very busy and the figure skaters cannot practice there programmes to a satisfactory standard because the ice is overcrowded with beginner skaters. There are some very keen and talented figure skaters in Cardiff who would really benefit from a double ice pad. Skaters are beginning to leave Cardiff ice rink and use other rinks in frustration.
