It is not a comfortable place to be a spectator, the sight lines are useless, the cafe/ bar is too small when rink is full. It is not a place you would want to revisit as a newbie to the sport. It must be a nightmare for the club to entice people back once they have visited once.
Gone is the social feel to a rink that we once enjoyed at the WNIR

A proper bar where you can go for a few drinks any night of the week, perhaps catching a rec team game or a trainging session. Therefore it needs to be elevated with a few over the rink. Would be great to go and watch or spend an evening. Lots of flats in the area now but virtually no bars, could be a good success. Showing live sports would be good.

The toilets have finally had locks put on the doors and warm air heaters installed, after a long absence. Other main observation is a lack of health & safety awareness. Stair bars are left hanging over the stairs, floor tiles stick up; there is plenty of potential to trip or fall.

Back to health & safety - the plexi behind the away bench is still missing after a year!

Staff - the reception girls are generally disinterested, and that's on a good day.

Railings around balcony are bolted to the floor with the bolts protruding upwards above floor level (not flush with floor) which is a trip hazard. Approx 2 weeks ago a girl caught her foot on bolts, fell over and ended up going to hospital with a broken ankle. Also bottom step of stairs in between blocks juts out into walkway around rink and again is another trip hazard, have noticed a few people catch their feet on these steps but no serious accident that I know of. Having motion sensors controlling lights in toilets is a bit of a joke, does not save any electricity as such, and just creates more mess on floor around toilets. Apart from being unhygenic this creates another trip/fall hazard although by the time you've tripped and fell the lights will have come back on to see what you've slid in / tripped or fell over and what you slid or fallen into!!!

Motion sensors clearly do save electricity. That's why they are si widely used.

A work colleague of mine regularly watches the Cardiff Devils, and has informed me that the Nottingham Ice Rink is the best rink that he has ever visited so far. May be this ice rink could be used as a model for a new rink in Cardiff.
I have only visited the Cardiff Ice Rink and the Lee Valley Rink so far. I was impressed with the cafe at the Lee Valley Rink , as it was larger than the cafe at the Cardiff rink and catered for a large number of competitors/ spectators. There was also a good view of the ice rink from the cafe.
I think that a new rink should have better facilities for the elderly and people with disabilities.
It would be good to have a room for off ice training.

the plasterboard at the back of block 2 was hanging off for a month over the new year, allowing direct access to the blue 'canvass'. a repair has now been made - using the advertising board to fix the plasterboard sections to each other!

Big News, Staff have attempted to clean the rink over the last couple of weeks, might have spent the time maintaining the ice instead. or some of the loose glass in plexi doors or the leaning boards on benches or maybe the ever present mousehole in front of the benches.
If you mention these faults to the manager he will tell you there are no funds for this type of repair
